G Gamete intrafallopian transfer (GIFT). An assisted reproductive technology that involves removing eggs from a woman's ovary at surgery, combining the eggs with sperm and immediately injecting both the eggs and the sperm directly into the fallopian tubes of the uterus. Fertilization then takes place on its own inside the tube. One disadvantage of GIFT is that neither the doctor nor the couple know whether or not fertilization took place if the woman does not become pregnant. |
